Southern Methodist University

The Costume Survey

Description provided by the program

Students admitted into the SMU MFA in Costume Design receive a full tuition waiver and a stipend ($10,000 in 2015-16) during all three years of study. The focus is excellence in design & collaboration; each student will design 5 fully realized productions, one of which includes an opera. Off-campus design in the third year is encouraged; networking is supported. Curriculum includes traditional and digital drawing & painting, draping, textiles, text analysis, business of design and local and national internships. Students are also exposed to a rich, large city experience, preparing them to design for theatre, film, TV and other entertainment industries in NYC, LA, Chicago, Minneapolis and Dallas, where we have alumni ready to get you started.
