Northwest Missouri State University

The Costume Survey

Description provided by the program

Northwest Missouri State University is located in Maryville, Missouri, approximately 90 miles north of Kansas City with a student population of roughly 6000. The Theatre Program is part of Northwest’s Department of Fine and Performing Arts and serves approximately 50 theatre majors. Housed in the Ron Houston Performing Arts Center, the program utilizes 3 performance spaces including a 1200-seat proscenium theatre, a state-of-the-art flexible black box theatre, and an intimate experimental black box theatre—along with fully-equipped scenic, electric, sound, paint, and costume shops. Theatre Northwest presents four Mainstage productions and between six and ten Second Stage productions every season. Students are engaged beyond the classroom through production and laboratory work, and are encouraged to pursue internship opportunities in theatre as early as their first year in school with companies such as the Glimmerglass Festival, McLeod Summer Playhouse, The Coterie Theatre, Kansas City Repertory Theatre, Maryville Young Players, Brownville Village Playhouse, and more. Graduates of Theatre Northwest continue to graduate school or begin careers with professional theatres or as educators and teaching artists. Scholarships are available for incoming freshman and transfer students with on-campus auditions and interviews each February.
