The Costume Survey

Description provided by the program

Located in central Alabama, UM is Alabama's only publicly supported liberal arts university. A department of 100-110 majors and six full-time faculty sponsor five departmental productions ranging in style and scale from full scale musicals to intimate studio productions. In addition to main stage production opportunities, there are many opportunities for costume design in student productions within the department schedule and university wide within the College Night musical competition tradition (student written, directed and produced one act musicals performed as the focal point of homecoming activites each winter). With a proud tradition of more than 80 years, the division of theatre helps students develop specialized knowledge and skills in acting, directing, and production techniques. Classes offered in costume construction and pattern development, costume crafts, beginning and advanced costume design, costume history, and makeup application with applied and advanced independent classes in costume construction and design, costume crafts, beginning and advanced costume design, costume history, and makeup application as well as production specific assignments and projects.
